Common Courtesy
I don’t know but maybe it’s just me but when I go to a doctor and am in the middle of having him or her take my history, if my phone rings, I will either a). Ignore it, or b) tell the caller I will call them right back.
I certainly would not sit there and blabber away for 5 minutes about something of absolutely no consequence!
Where the hell have basic manners gone?!

On about 1 in 5 traffic stops, the driver is talking on the phone when I walk up to the car. They typically ignore me until I tell them to hang up. It’s not uncommon, but it still amazes me every time.

I can think of a few instances where it might be OK to take a call at the doctor’s, but those instances would be few and far between. I know there was one time that I took a call from my husband while I was at the OB. I figured that since my husband could not attend the appointment, he should have a chance to ask his questions about his child. And that *was* the only topic on the call. On the other hand, there’s no reason that I need to talk to my husband during my appointment for thyroid meds refill or while at the dentist.

Unless you are a pilot needed to “talk down” a non-pilot mid-flight or a brain surgeon needed on a consult…there is no excuse for taking a call while face to face talking to another. It just says that my interaction with you is just not that important and that I am a rude butthead.

At my last appointment, my endocrinologist answered her cell to speak to her daughter for approximately 5 minutes about college supplies that they needed to buy for the daughter, and what campus office the daughter needed to go to in order to pay a tuition bill. Didn’t strike me as a conversation that was urgent, but who am I to say?
