Nice to Meet you Too!
People frequently meet under odd circumstances. Blind dates is one of the them. Things are awkward at baseline. You don’t usually know what the other person looks like let alone their personality.
Anyway, this is bad enough but when a medical issue interrupts the process, it gets even more awkward.
So this man in his early 70′s gets set up for a blind date. He’s getting ready, shaving and applying the cologne. Suddenly he gets a sharp, stabbing pain in the chest. He gets worried but after a minute or two it goes away. He doesn’t want to be late for his date so he heads over to the restaurant. While there awaiting the arrival of his date, he gets the chest pain again, and this time even worse. The staff know him there and seeing that he doesn’t look good, call the ambulance for him which brings him to me. He’s very casual during the work which unfortunately reveals an Type A Aortic Dissection. Time is of the essence to get him to the OR. Mortality is high.
Meanwhile, back at the restaurant, the man’s date arrives and notices there is no one waiting for her. Fearing she has been stood up, she goes to leave. The staff intervenes and tells her that no, she did not get blown off but in fact her date had to go the ER. She decides to go to the ER herself and confirm his story! Lo and behold, she comes into the patient/date’s room just as he is getting ready to be wheeled off to his date with destiny. “Nice to meet you too! Pardon my appearance. I hope I survive this and we can go on that date!”.

… she was told by the staff he was taken to ER by ambulance and she had to confirm it? What – she didn’t believe it? As if they’d make it up just to cover for him.
Uh-huh, sorry, the old dude just bailed when he saw you, old chick, but he didn’t want you to feel bad so he had all of us – who clearly have nothing else more important going on – conspire with him on this tall tale.
Yikes! I wouldn’t put stock in that relationship (presuming he survived and dated her).

Knew a doc who was on a first date who had a sudden onset severe HA, left the date, went to ER and was dx w/ intracranial bleed. Don’t think they much worried about the date after neurosurgery.

Well, it would be nice if it worked out after all.
