Chiro Fun
So, I don’t know what happened but in the last three days I’ve seen three people with injures suspected of being caused by visits to the chiropractor.
A). Neck manipulation causing severe headache. Luckily no signs of vertebral artery dissection but I’ve seen that before. Don’t let your neck get manipulated.
B). Back manipulation causing sudden severe neuropathy around in an intercostal nerve distribution.
C). Wrist manipulation for carpal tunnel syndrome causing major swelling, ecchymosis, and petechiae.
I told all of then to ask for their money back.

It depends on the competence of the chiropractor, and the ability of the patient to relax and trust the procedure. An anxious person in the hands of an inferior chiropractor is a disaster waiting to happen.

This.
A good and competent chiro is worth his weight in gold, and will not do neck adjustments without knowing the patient well and/or seeing xrays etc. of previous injuries. The bad ones… well, those are the ones whose patients you get to see in the ER, so you’re getting the bad lot.
Just like most anesthesiologists think that birth requires epidurals… well, no anesthesiologist will ever see a natural birth without epi, because they’re not called then.

Srsly??!! I´d never do that anyway, even less now after reading this. In my book it looks fucking dangerous and there is no way of me having someone without proper medical education turning my joints (especially my neck) violently in different directions.
Especially since there is no research (at least I´ve seen none) that proves the effectiveness of these procedures.

Get their money back AND have the chiro pay for the ED visit, I’d say. Though the chiro is more likely to offer a free adjustment. Reminds me of the time I told an aromatherapist to please not wave essential oils under my nose cause they trigger my asthma. The therapist responded, “I can treat your asthma with aromatherapy, you know.” AAACKKK!!!!

I have been to a chiro before, but I strongly prefer my DO that is also a family practice doctor and did his physical manipulation fellowship at Johns Hopkins. I trust him because he can order and understand labs, imaging, etc. And he looks pretty nice when he has you twisted into a pretzel.
