Spinning Your Wheels
If there is one thing I hate when I work is being inefficient. I’m not saying I need to blast through a million cases an hour but I need to feel like I’m accomplishing something at a reasonable pace – and I need to have something to show for when I’m finished.
Some days everything conspires against you though. Constant interruptions from MD’s, family members, and RN’s. Crazy patients that you have to spend an inordinate amount of time with. Personal semi-urgent phone calls that demand immediate attention ( like your baby sitter didn’t show up and your kids are about to be left alone ). Emails coming in that demand you finish some old charts or that you complete your recredentialing paperwork. Staff asking you for free personal medical advice. Your computer EMR freezing and having to reboot the whole thing. You name it, something after the next renders you ineffectual.
It’s times like this you wish they had a staff Scotch dispenser instead of coffee!
