Bullshit
So, for reasons yet unknown (although I don’t think the idea is so wrong), we just got word that all the doctors in my group are going to be rated by staff. We’re to be rated by PA’s, Nurses, and the secretarial staff and techs. Also we get to rate the PA’s and the PA’s get rated by everyone else. I’m not sure how the ratings will be done – anonymously of course and hopefully without too much space to free text – I can just see this, “He sucks! He orders me to do all this crap!”. Anyway, this is all fine except for one glaring omission. The doctors and PA’s are not going to get to rate the nurses. Why? Well, apparently it would have to get past the union! WTF?! It’s not like these ratings are going to get anyone fired (or so they say) or have their pay docked but are to give you an idea of what others think about working with you. F’ that! I don’t want to get rated if I can’t rate them back! I have a few choice things both good and bad to say about some of the nursing colleagues. Nope. Union bullshit. As usual.

is this an effort to partly satisfy the incoming cms type requirements?

Ridiculous. This just seems to be setting up the entire department for an “us vs. them” mentality. Frankly, though, as a nurse, I’d love to see the providers be able to comment on the nurses. When a nurse reports another nurse to a supervisor or such for unsafe care, etc., it’s seen as lateral violence – I think management would probably take the reports more seriously if they came from physicians. Telling management that a specific nurse has no ability to triage/run a resus room/care for ICU boarders is met with seeming indifference because they are all about “a nurse is a nurse is a nurse” — if it came from a physician, they might actually care.

So you don’t like unions, but you don’t like the boss shoving the surveys down your throat. At least you seem to enjoy complaining. Good for you.

Also, you can rate anybody with intact hearing, right to their face. If more people practiced this, there’d be less corporate wieners spending millions on surveys.

Again, I’m late to the party. . . but I’d like to be rated by the docs. I like feedback. We don’t have unionized nurses in our state.
