How Accidents Happen

By Dr Killpatient | Filed in Humorous, Lessons and Such

If there is one thing that I have learned now that I have kids (I have a 22 month old and a 4 year old),it is that accidents will happen. Usually it is just knocking something over or breaking it but often worse can and does happen. I used to only see it as an end result – ie a kid comes in with a swallowed foreign body or one is his or her ear.  Now I get to see it in real time!  Now, I watch my kids and see accidents and injuries about to occur – and most of the time luckily I intervene and prevent it from happening and turning into ER visit.   For example I see:

1. My 22 month old daughter literally running with sharp scissors.

2. My 4 year old son trying to pull a magazine or something out from underneath a very heavy object that is perched high above his head.

3. My daughter picking up a penny and putting it into her mouth.

4. My son standing on top of the back of the sofa, poised to attempt a leap across to the dining room table.

5. My daughter about to climb out of her crib with her leg wedged between the bars.

6. My son tormenting the dog by grabbing her snout with his hands.

If I added up all the ER co-pays I save by preventing accidents, I bet I have enough for year of college by the time they are 10.
